The FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) Consumer Duty is a regulatory framework. It was introduced to ensure higher standards of consumer protection in the financial services industry.
It emphasises that firms must deliver good outcomes for consumers and place their interests at the center of their operations.
In short, it is exactly what all firms should be doing in every sector of industry. Sadly, because there remain some operators who don’t put the client first the FCA have introduced this new framework (remember PPI? or Car Financing Commissions?). The framework also allows the regulator to adapt to new selling channels and ways in which customers do business.
It’s a good thing that ensures the customer is put first.
